The Rural Energy of America Grant (REAP) Eligibility:
If a 47% cost savings on a solar energy system sounds good, then the question becomes, are you eligible for this 25% incentive through the REAP Grant?
There are two groups who can apply for REAP benefits: agricultural producers who earn at least half of their gross annual income from farming operations, and rural small businesses in eligible locations. Other qualifications are:
Be financially solvent
Not be delinquent or have outstanding federal taxes
Be the owner of the business
Have no judgment, or debarment in order to be considered.
Agricultural producers may be in either rural or non-rural locations, while small businesses must be located in rural development areas, defined as an area not a city or town with 50,000 or more inhabitants as well as the urbanized areas surrounding the city or town.

Applications and Deadlines
Grant applications are accepted throughout the year on guaranteed loans. Applications for REAP grants are due March 31st 2021.
- Grants of $20,000 or less: October 31, 2020 and March 31st, 2021
- Unrestricted Grants (up to $500,000): March 31st, 2021
- Loan Guarantees are completed continuously throughout the year.

Preparation is Important!
Getting to know your state and especially your local USDA official and coordinators is important to a successful submission and is crucial to the success of your REAP grant application.
Contact your states energy coordinator and make sure you have registered with the System for Award Management and have a Data Universal Number System number early in the process.
